AP World History
We will covering 10,000 years of history. This class is not designed for your student to memorize dates, names, and the particulars of any given day in history. It is for your student to think critically about the themes throughout history and how many ideas seem to repeat themselves. Students will be taking an AP Exam at the end of the school year for a chance at college credit. There will be a lot of reading in this course, primary and secondary sources, and students will be writing in class at least once a week. Students are expected to read their textbooks at home and to take notes.

Students will learn 4 history reasoning skills - contextualization, comparison, causation, and continuity and change over time. These are skills they have been introduced to over their educational history but we will be diving into them deeper in this college level course.

Textbook
The textbook we have chosen is Ways of the World, A Global History with Sources, Second Edition, by Robert W. Strayer.

Key Concepts
There are key concepts in AP World History. Think of them as main ideas for each period of time. AP World History, nicknamed WHAP, is split into 6 periods of time, and with each period, there are key concepts. More information on the periods, as well as the exam, can be found here. There is a practice exam in that book as well. I encourage your student to not attempt this exam until March or April.

This Website
The purpose of this website is for you and your student to stay updated on what we are working on, as well as upcoming due dates. You can also see what we're doing daily on our Echo website, provided by the school. I will also be utilizing Google Classroom so students may access the powerpoints and have those to study at home. Lastly, we will be using Remind, an app you can download on your phone, so that you and your student can be updated when due dates are coming up.
